In honor of April being the month of Earth Day, we here at MyChelle are celebrating the many ways in which we “go green” – as a company, and also as individuals. From the foods we eat to the habits we keep, we humans are constantly affecting the environment around us – so why not do our best to ensure that that effect is a positive one?
This week’s installment of our Girlfriend Recommended series features something we all know and love (hello, fashion!) but with a special Earth Day-inspired twist. Here are some of our favorite examples of and sources for eco-friendly fashion:
Celeb style icon and eco-conscious lifestyle guru Gwyneth Paltrow recently partnered with Chinti and Parker, a British ethical knitwear company, to launch a seriously covetable line of environmentally-friendly cashmere sweaters. You can browse the entire collection (as well as other lovely clothing items and accessories) at Goop.com.
Proving that eco-fashion can transcend far beyond hemp-based materials and “hippy-chic” accessories, Amour Vert is an online shop that caters to the modern fashionista who cares just as much about helping the planet as she does about staying on-trend. Clean lines, classic cuts and bold, beautiful colors characterize the collection, which includes everything from sexy cocktail dresses to work-appropriate blouses.
Compassion Couture is another fantastic e-commerce site that sells environmentally responsible clothing and accessories. Everything available on the website is guaranteed to be 100% cruelty-free and eco-friendly, so you can feel extra good about treating yourself to some retail therapy! We’re especially loving the elegant structure and woven texture of this vegan handbag by Cornelia Guest.
Lastly, when it comes to finding handcrafted, one-of-a-kind fashion items, no online or brick-and-mortar store can really compete with Etsy. A simple search for “eco fashion” or “upcycled accessories” will bring up pages and pages of beautiful results. A couple of our favorite Etsy shops for eco-friendly fashion are sealmaiden, which specializes in comfy T’s and tops (seriously – how pretty is the graphic on this Gold Owl Charcoal Sweatshirt?) and Cozy Modern Accessories by DottieQ, which offers exactly what the name implies. Many of the scarves, like the green one pictured, have been woven of an eco-friendly hemp and cotton blend.
As this adorable infographic from InfographicJournal.com shows, eco-fashion is quickly becoming more and more popular within the mainstream media. We really hope the trend continues – and, of course, we’d love to hear back from all of our beautiful readers: Do you have a favorite eco-friendly brand or fashion line? If so, please share!
